Reasons I Go Barefoot
7-10-2019
In answer to a question about how cultural attitudes influence our barefooting, one member replied:
I choose to go barefoot because, in short, it gives me joy. Specifically, it just feels more comfortable, it has improved my foot health, it allows me to feel the various surfaces and textures underfoot and enhances my awareness, and desire to care for, the environment (which for me includes a spiritual component).
If no one ever mentioned my feet or called attention to my choice, I’d feel just fine. But on this point I don’t worry about what others think.
On the other hand, due to current attitudes, I do see myself as an “advocate” for barefooting. So, I welcome honest curiosity and I try to keep my feet looking presentable and well cared for–as a way to say, “See, here’s what healthy feet looks like.”
