Yahoo! Groups

The SBL uses the Yahoo! Groups service for its mailing list. Our mailing list address is sbl-list@barefooters.org.

Yahoo! Groups has several options for receiving SBL email:

If you want to change your SBL email delivery setting, you can use any of the following three methods:

  1. By direct e-mail. Send a blank email to one of the following addresses, from the account you use to receive SBL email:

  2. Change your settings on the web at Yahoo! Groups. To do this you must first register with Yahoo! (it's free, but you must enable cookies in your browser). Go to groups.yahoo.com and follow the directions to register. Then, click on "My Groups" at the Yahoo! Groups main page. It will take you to the SBL member list (sbl-list) where you can change your email delivery preference.

  3. Write to sbl-consult@barefooters.org and include a brief explanation of what you would like.

Spam Filtering

With the vast proliferation of UCE (unsolicited commerical email, a.k.a. "spam"), some individuals and ISPs (internet service providers) have implemented "spam filtering", some of which is quite aggressive.

It may be necessary for you to "whitelist", or explicitly enable for receiving, email from any address in the "barefooters.org" domain for administrative messages from the SBL, including our membership application follow-up.

In particular, as of early 2008, we have discovered that the followup message that our membership committee sends out in response to an application is often categorized as spam and is not delivered to Yahoo users' inboxes. If you have submitted an application and not received a followup message within a few days, please write to our Membership Committee.

Messages on the SBL-list itself will arrive with the "Sender:" and "Reply-to:" headers set to the value "sbl-list@yahoogroups.com", but the "From:" address will be that of the individual sending the message. Set your whitelist parameters accordingly.

E-mail via the web

On the Society for Barefoot Living Members page, each member's name, wherever it appears, is a link.

If you have given us the URL of your personal home page, the link will take you there.

Otherwise, the link will take you to a web form that enables anyone to send you email. Your email address, however, is not made publicly available.

All email sent via this mechanism is clearly indicated as such with the following text:

This is a message sent to you via the SBL website email form.
It was submitted on date by Full Name <email>

You are under no obligation to reply. If you do reply, however, then the person who sent you the email will have your real email address. If you receive an unwanted message, the best thing to do is to simply delete the message and forget about it.
